Luke Kizito Ojiambo Muleka, / Innovator /Social Entrepreneur /Speaker/Leader.
Founded Signs Media Kenya Limited in 2011 operating on a social enterprise model with the main objectives being to propagate Social, Economic, Political and Talent development of Persons with Disabilities through assistive technology.
• In 2015 we applied to the Communication Authority of Kenya to run a television station broadcasting in Sign Language and were granted; we are now broadcasting effective February 2017 on free to air platform as Signs TV and offer publicity in terms of advertisements, documentaries and general partnerships to organizations at very affordable rates.
Signs TV is;
1. A Sustainable Development Goals award winner 2018.
2. KUZA 2018 PWDs Accessibilities Award Winner
3. Signs TV is also a DIAR Award winner-Diversity and Inclusion PWDs corporate champion.
4. Signs TV is among the 50 top ranked solutions by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and was featured in the Youth Solutions Report 2019. This was unveiled on Thursday 26 September at the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Side Event on Social Business, Youth and Technology in New York City-USA.
5. SIGNS TV is the winner of Youth Connekt Africa Awards 2019 –Digital Inclusion Category held in Kigali- Rwanda.
6. Awarded at the Zero Conference 2020 - Tools to support communication in Vienna, Austria.
7. Winner of the UN SDG Action Campaign…Inspire Award.
The uniqueness of Signs TV has enabled many PWDs to harness their talents by supporting their creativity and by extension reduce discrimination, social stigma and boost self-esteem, 60% of our employees are PWDs.
• During the COVID 19 pandemic we also launched assistALL- a Sign Language Interpreters mobile application available on android to facilitate the communication in case a deaf person would be in isolation and the doctor, nurse or interpreter would be in full PPEs creating a communication barrier. Post COVID 19 this application would be used in higher education, general healthcare, employment, judicial system and social settings for the deaf and also creating employment opportunities for the interpreters.
